Painted Glass from the Foto Reali Archive at the National Gallery of Art of Washington


Melissa Beck Lemke is the Image Specialist for Italian Art in the National Gallery of Art’s Department of Image Collections. She has cared for the extensive Italian section of that archive of over 16 million images since 1999. She received her Master’s degree in art history from Rutgers University and has been at the Gallery since 1995. She has managed large digitization projects on Foto Reali and the Gallery’s Kress Collection of Historic Images. Recently she curated an exhibition at the National Gallery, “In the Library: Verrocchio, Connoisseurship, and the Photographs of Clarence Kennedy.” She is in the process of completing a related book on Kennedy.
